Reboot the Cisco 7940 and 7960 IP phone

To reboot Cisco 7940/7960 IP phone hold down the following keys :-

"*" and "6" and "Settings"

Press * and 6 and Settings button

To reboot a Cisco 7941 Series: Push the settings button and while on the Settings screen push **#** and after a few seconds the phone will start to reboot.

Does anyone know how to do this pogrammatically by any chance? I am looking at the Cisco programming guides, but can't seem to get it to work (using the XML file method). :-)

you have to turn on telnet on the phone using SIPDefault.cnf entery:
# Telnet Level (enable or disable the ability to telnet into the phone)
telnet_level: 2 ; 0-Disabled (default), 1-Enabled, 2-Privileged

then you will be able to reboot it remotely.

Does this work as well as unplugging the network cable and then repluggin in?

It will perform better, and is less hassle.
